This is the first in a series of (hopefully) many more “How I'd do it" type of emails. So basically, the format is I'd take a question, post, rant, tweet… whatever and write an email about it through the lens of “what would JAI do if he were in this exact situation?” So, here we go… “I don't know what to write that isn't just 'here's our new drop.’” Okay, I see this one a lot. Now, almost every Ecom brand is guilty of this. The only time an email comes in from the brand is when a new line of products is about to drop. “Preorder now to get 60% off the first batch.” Like for the love of God and your customers this needs to stop. You see, when you treat your customers as just buyers exchanging cash for a product rather than real humans with feelings, then this is bound to happen. And the annoying part about all this is that the competitor they end up buying from might have a product line that's worse than yours yet with better storytelling. “Oh, storytelling, what a profound secret… duh.” Now, I know that's what you might be thinking but hear me out for a sec. So… let me put it this way, which of your friends do you bond with the most? The one who'd tell you they had a good day, or the one who tells you about their convo with that colleague at work who just can't seem to mind their business? Now, I’m almost certain you get the point. The truck driver took the wrong route whilst delivering the first launch of their products? Tell us. A coworker spilt their drink on the draft for the initial product design? Tellllllll ussssss. We love a good joke after all. Basically, you can make a story out of almost anything and sell at the end of the email. If that's a struggle for you tho, hit me up, let's talk. JAI |
