Update No.8

As I write this it’s 1:50 pm on a beautiful, sunny Monday afternoon in Southern Nigeria.

In the West, Spring is on its way… and over here, the rainy season seems to be arriving and boy, with full force.

Like, the heavy rain we had on Saturday was out of this world.

Gratefully tho, network connectivity wasn’t affected for lots of days.

That said, you’re welcome to Update No. 8.

So, what’s new in my life this month?

Well… nothing much.

Truth be told, I’m one of those boring fellas that maintains the same routine month in, month out.

And this month was no exception.

So it was classes, attending events like weddings and some virtual work related events like the daily Speed Matching sessions and as always business activities like writing this daily email to you, client work and outreach.

Speaking of business, let’s get into the deets, shall we?

For a start, I changed niches this month.

And that’s the single most important decision I’ve made all year long.

Honestly, I hesitated quite a bit before making this decision but after asking quite a few copywriters and entrepreneurs, they all told me the same thing -change niches!

So I decided to.

And the reason why was because I was having a hard time selling to fitness coaches.

Most coaches were interested in my offers but it was clear that they didn't have the money to pay.

A few told me that outrightly and others told me that they would commit when finances were a bit less tight.

And I totally understand… there’s nothing to be ashamed of when you don't have a certain figure in your bank account, after all we all go through rough patches in life.

But a situation where the average buyer in your niche can’t afford your services, then you do have a problem.

You either reduce your prices or you switch niches….

And I picked the latter.

Granted, I could have reduced my prices to maybe $50-100 per month, but that wouldn’t have allowed me grow my biz cuz most decent copywriting cost far more.

So charging potential clients that would basically be a death sentence for my biz.

Sure, I can afford rent, groceries and other basic needs with that but then, that’s all.

So switching to a niche that has money and a willingness to do email marketing made sense.

And I know this because Ecom brands invest hundreds of dollars if not thousands on ad spend daily and they email regularly as well.

Switching niches aside, another change I made to my biz was purchasing Svetoslav Dimitrov’s 17 Client Getting Strategies course.

Currently, I’ve only made 2 outreaches so I can’t say if it’s working or not.

But the advice seems solid and I’ll give it 3 months of consistent effort before I judge results.

Considering I just got it for $27, one client would be enough to recoup the cost multiple times over.

Another change I’m about to make in my biz (hopefully, this week) is joining Svet’s $9 Copywriting Titans community.

And the reason why I’m joining is because getting clients is one thing, retaining them is another.

Look at this way: as long as you’re easy to work with and a decent human being who responds to client requests within reasonable time frames, then the most important thing that would help you retain clients is getting results for them.

And who’s gonna fire a copywriter that generates far more than their hiring fee?

So that’s the point of Svet’s community -to help younger copywriters master the craft without paying an arm and a leg for coaching upfront.

Granted, you’d have to pay for coaching eventually but your baseline copywriting skills would generate the money for that.

Well, enough of promoting Svet’s offers, lol.

I’m not even an affiliate for him, but he’s been so helpful that I can’t help but promote his offers. After all, I pay for his stuff already.

Anyway, you can grab his course here and join his community here.

(Sidenote: The community is hosted via Skool, so you might need VPN to access it just in case it’s not available in your country.)

All said and done, what are my plans for April:

Well, a few list swaps with potential clients via List Match would be nice -I’ve got one scheduled already.

Another thing on my mind would be reaching out to at least 2-3 brands per week, more if possible. But then again. I wouldn’t want to sacrifice the quality of my outreach so 2-3 per week seems to be the sweet spot… in addition to other client getting strategies obviously.

And then, as always, client work.

Also, whilst not a priority, engaging on socials like LinkedIn, X and FB would be nice.

So that’s a wrap for the monthly update this month.

And now onto my thoughts about the quarter in general.

Truth be told, it’s been a slow quarter.

And whilst I've met some of my goals, I haven’t achieved all of them… which has obviously been discouraging.

And to make it worse, whenever I scroll socials I see other internet entrepreneurs posting revenue screenshots and figures left, right, center.

(Part of the reasons why I don’t make the revenue figures for my business public.)

Anyway, to sum it all, business has been growing, albeit slowly and long term, sustained growth is what matters the most.

Sooooooo, the future looks good.

Now, let’s get into April.
